The prescription request should read "First neurological evaluation for Syringomyelia/Chiari" on the general practitioner's request /specialist's request

No further instrumental exams or specialized visits are requested, although we suggest to complete possible exams/research in progress requested by your own doctor

The patient will have to bring documents concerning Chiari malformation and/or Siringomielia.

To the first neurological visit at the CRESSC may follow, in the same day, the execution of instrumental examinations and specialized consultations, so it’s required from the patient availability for the all day (morning and afternoon).

Patients with diagnosis or suspects on Siringomielia-Chiari Malformation are included in the DTAP through the first neurological visit at CRESSC.

 The first visit at the Center is finalized for diagnosis, attestation of exemption from contribution for rare disease, if provided by Norm in force, and selection of patients with surgical indications.

In case of complex diagnosis with need for multi-specialized competences or with possible surgical indication, Integrated Multi-disciplinary Evaluations are made (following the oncological GIC model).

Later clinical follow-up is made through neurological-outpatient controls (biannual/annual) or, in case of relevant clinical changes, through revaluation in Day Hospital or recovery in Neurosurgery.

The patient doesn’t have to present any request to the CRESSC.

On the occasion, the right to exemption from contribution for rare disease will be evaluated, with possible release of request.

May the patient be reminded that he can effectuate the FIRST neurological VISIT in exemption admission of sanitary bills of the doctor points out the exemption code R99 on the prescription request (suspected rare disease).
